Outside the wind blows hard, it is cold and rainy, but fortunately the wood stove is burning inside and it is pleasantly warm. In the background a Foreigner song is playing softly on the radio
"I want to know what love is" and our dogs are stretched out in their baskets.
While enjoying a cup of coffee it is time to write a report.
This time I'm going to write a review about a new filter system from Kase: the clip-in filter for Fujifilm.
Before we really get started, I have to do a few disclaimers to make things right.
Disclaimer 1: I am a Kase Ambassador. That is the brand ambassador for Kase filters Benelux. I am not being paid or sponsored for doing these writings.
I like to dedicate myself to the promotion of Kase filters in this way. I received the clip-in filters on loan from Kase filters Benelux.
After testing the Kase clip-in filters and writing this review, the filters are sent back to Kase filters Benelux.
Disclaimer 2: All photos taken by me for this review may not be used without my express permission.
Kase clip-in filter
Clip-in filters are small pieces of B270 optical glass placed in a frame, they weigh only 3.3 grams per filter and have a high quality nano coating. The clip-in are shock resistant and protect the sensor from dust when changing lenses in the open air.
The clip-in filter is located between the sensor and lens
Placing the filter in front of the sensor is a bit exciting for me for the first time, but before I install the filter, I first clean the filter thoroughly with an air blower and the supplied cleaning cloths.
Then I place the filter in the recess for the sensor, press lightly and the lens on it.
Around Christmas time the streets are always so beautifully decorated and I thought I would go back for night photography. An excellent opportunity to test the
Kase clip-in Neutral Night filter.
Before leaving, quickly checked the weather forecast. A little drizzle is expected, but generally dry and little wind.
My camera bag packed with the Fujifilm X-T2 and X-T4 and two lenses I want to use for this test, the Laowa 9mm f / 2.8 and 16-55mm f / 2.8
For the photo without night filter, I use the Fujifilm X-T2
But as you well know, 2020 is a gloomy year this year and a lock down during Christmas. And that can be seen on the street. It is very quiet, few people, nothing to do, everything is dense and little decorated, almost no color to be seen.

Then for a test with the Kase clip-in ND64 to the mudflats near Wierum.
In the test I only used the Fujifilm X-T4, 16-55 mm f / 2.8 and unfortunately I have no before or after images.
While taking the photo below it was almost windless.
Removing the clip-in filter is very simple, you use the included pick to pop the filter out of your camera.
Then you turn the camera over and the filter falls from your camera into your hand.
My conclusion about the Kase clip-in filter:
- The beauty of this system where it does not matter which lens you are going to use.
- The Kase clip-in filter is certainly a nice addition to your filter bag.
- The Kase clip-in Neutral Night filter is especially ideal for evening and night photography,
- The Kase clip-in ND 64 or ND 1000 are also a must when taking photos with slow shutter speeds.
- When changing lenses in the field, the best thing about these filters is that the sensor is protected against dirt and dust from the outside.
The Kase de clip-in filter is available for the following Fujifilm cameras the X-T4, X-T3, X-Pro 3 and the X-H1
and available in a UV filter (MCUV), Night filter (NEUTRAL NIGHT) and gray filters 6 stops (ND64) and 10 stops (ND1000)
Thank you for reading.
Until next time,
Thomas van der Laan
